Other Methods to Move Around

Lately with the rising gas prices (that never seem to stop rising) some people are trying to find new ways to conserve or save money while commuting around.  Face it, gas prices stink really bad.

The news really tries to tell the story of the changing prices and changing methods for transportation.  One problem that some face, especially here in North Texas is the public transportation.  It’s horrible.  I remember back to when I was working in Seattle and I would take the bus every day to work.  It only cost me like $75 for a monthly pass.  But for those who can take public transportation it could save you a lot of money!  Also you see people (familiar or not) trading in their SUV’s and Trucks for Motorcycles or used Harleys as they get really good gas mileage.  The only drawback to this, is we might have a bunch of new riders that have never owned a motorcycle and in heavy traffic could cause issues with inexperience.

Other ways if you live close enough to work, are electric cars, hybrids, bicycles, scooters, etc.  Hopefully at some point these prices will drop off and make it reasonable again to have some fun around town and not judge your fun by cost per mile!

Ya know I used to complain about how it really wasn’t saving us much cash with the bike because I was still buying a set of tires every month, putting it in the shop for a servicing every few weeks, and stuff like that.

But now that the bike’s down and Hubby’s taking the Blazer to work everyday I’m feeling it. It’s not just the gas. The Blazer gets new tires and brakes monthly, too, just because of driving up and down the mountain everyday. The bike really is cheaper all around.

I agree about new inexperienced riders though. I’ve been trying my best to get a campaign going around here to help educate new riders on exactly why they need to take the MSF safety course before riding and wear gear at all times!

Using public transport is good but they have to make sure that the buses drive on time and off course they have to make a bit cheaper!

In The Netherlands a lot of people use bus or train to get to there work, but people like to use there bicycles to get to there work too. This doesn’t cost anything and it’s healthy for you! ;)
