After all the recent talks about the market, etc. I was thinking back to when I actually did some rather small online trading in my attempts to make some money. Now I did make some but not a whole lot really as I never invested more than $1000, and after looking back over the years I probably should have just kept that money in the account and put it on some long term growth accounts, but I was younger and obviously I didn’t care.
Now I really should be looking into some type of retirement fund so it can start building over the next 30 years. Crap I still have 30 years to go, wow, that sounds horrible, lol. Anyways my goal in 2009 is to get back to investing somewhere so we are actually trying to earn something with our money instead of spending it.
One of these days I will break down and buy some ipods. I’m a gadget guy so it’s really surprising that I have not bought one yet. Probably one of the key things, is that technology changes so fast and then new and cool features come out and you buy the ipod and then the next week the next one is better and it comes out 1 week later and you didn’t here about it. Almost like cell phones, technology just moves really fast.
I would love to have one though for work and road trips and the ocassional trip to the gym to workout so I don’t have to listen to their music.
One day I will get one and fall victim to all of the accessories they have and will be fully engulfed in this ipod era.
During some parts of the year we have to recruit or find players to join our soccer team so we can keep improving through out the year, etc. One thing we did this year was to get business cards done with our club logo, team name, and our coaching info. One idea that we can use for next year would be promotional pens.
We could get our club logo on them and our phone number and we could hand them out with our business cards. Then when open workouts and tryouts come around they can remember our team name year round. We will have to double check in to this and put this plan into action for next year. Hopefully using this method might increase our tryout rate by two or three times the amount from last year.
While watching Fox News this morning to catch up on the hurricane news, we saw a commercial which we had to basically rewind and watch again. (thanks to our dvr satellite)
It’s a commercial about God’s Love in a cartoon style format. I think what is most interesting that this commercial is from a major business in our country. And I applaud them for this commercial.
Below is the video from their site. The chairman talks briefly and then they show the commercial. Go check it out.
So Ike came close to us today. We pretty much saw some rain and some good gusts of wind but that was pretty much it. However down South by the coast, most not so lucky.
They canceled our soccer game today but not until we drove up there, walked to the field and got rained on. They did cancel some games last night, so the question really is.. Why didn’t you just cancel all the games this weekend instead of some and make people drive up there this morning and waste time and gas. Oh well.. Just had a nice day of no soccer and I got to work on the office some more and watch tons of hurricane news coverage. Now just watching the OU Sooners play my home town University of Washington…
Go Sooners..!!
How is your Saturday going? or how was your Saturday?
I have been watching 4 video streams of Houston News channels today and they are covering the coast area and talking with people and they have been reporting flooding and storm surge already and the eye of the hurricane still isn’t close to landfall. I think we are still 12 hours away from that. I think a lot of homes will be destroyed. So hence the title of my post, I can’t believe what some people think. Some people that they have interviewed on TV had decided to just stay and ride out the storm. I guess they don’t care that forecasters keep warning people that if they don’t leave it could be ‘Certain Death’ I don’t know about you but after watching this storm and all the reports about it, I would leave.. This storm is massive. In fact the track it’s taken we are going to see above rainfall averages for our area and sustained winds to 50mph for several hours. In fact they just issued a flash flood watch for the Dallas, Fort Worth area.
I know this storm would be FUN to watch, but not at the chance of losing your life over it. I hope they really decide to leave. They still have a couple hours to get out.
Lately for some reason our allergies have been bad. Might not so much, but Leslie’s have been bad. Enough for her to head to the doctor’s and get a steroid shot and some nose spray. Mine are pretty mild. One suggestion was to get a Blueair purifier for our room to help us sleep better and just clean the air in the house. I really never had a problem when I was living in Seattle. Then again since I was born and raised there that might have something to do with it.
But anything you can get to help you out in the time of allergies is a positive.
Wow this is crazy. A 54 year old guy from Wisconsin had just hit a new milestone. 23,000 consumed Big Macs. Can you believe it? He started 36 years ago. That is a lot of Big Macs. I would think that you would get sick of them after a while. The article also states he has kept every receipt since ‘72. Click the link below for the whole story.
