How was your Weekend?

Mine was ok.

I can’t really complain about it right?  Although I didn’t have a whole lot on my list to accomplish this weekend, it sure seemed that I was always doing something or occupied.

It started Saturday with the dog waking me up way too early.  7:30am is a time I like to sleep past on Saturday.  And of course once I got up she went back to bed, lol.  Then I came into work about 11am.  We had a bunch of things on the list to accomplish:

  • New phone system cut over.
  • Upgrade our Quickbooks Software to Enterprise 9.
  • Update our Active Directory Servers.
  • Update the firmware on our Exchange server.

There were a few other things but I won’t bore you with them.  Finally got out of work about 5pm due to a last minute emergency and proceeded home.  Sunday morning we got up and went to an awesome church service and then met up with some friends for lunch and a couple hours of Wii time.  I left them to pick up my little brother and we went and saw Valkyrie.  Movie was simply Awesome! After the movies I dropped him off and headed home to relax and prepare for the upcoming week.

Did you do anything special this weekend?

So Far 2009 = Busy

I cannot believe it’s already the 17th.  This month feels like it has just flown by.  In fact it’s been so busy I haven’t posted anything in a long time.

Soccer started back up for 2 weeks now, and that takes up a couple of my free nights after work.  Trying to get the girls ready for spring league games which start in mid February.  Speaking of work, that has been busy too.  We usually are pretty swamped in January right after the holidays.  The IT Dept (my boss and I) came up with our 2009 goal list and there are some things we might not accomplish, but I hope we can complete all of them.  Here are a few items from that list which I also have to learn and research prior to completing.

  • Moving from Exchange 2003 to 2007 (on a virtualization system)
  • Windows Server 2008 (Active Directory)
  • Put in new phone system (ah that is what I’m doing later today) – Check..
  • Hire a web/print developer
  • And various other goals and small projects.

I have put in a lot of Facebook time looking up people and using it more.  I haven’t played the Wii too much this last week but a whole lot up to last week.  I guess I need to jump on that today and get some time in =).  Tomorrow I will be taking my little brother (I’m a big brother for North Texas Big Brother, Big Sisters) to the movies it should be fun.   I have also been using up my commute time to listen to some cool books lately.  This one is called “The 7th Son” it’s by JC Hutchins.  I I just finished book 2 and starting book 3 today.  What an awesome story so far.  I highly recommend it.  Oh and it’s free to download.  And last but not least we got our final approval for our adoption/foster license.

The rest of January is uncertain except a few things.  Of course more soccer, might goto the sci-fi/comic con in Dallas next weekend and more work and soccer, lol.

Has your January been busy so far?

The Christmas Sweater

Last night we went with some friends to watch ‘The Christmas Sweater’ Glenn Beck program at our nearest movie theater.  I was looking forward to seeing this for quite some time and all was good once we arrived.  However, once it started we had no sound. arghh..  so 10 minutes fly by before we get sound and the movie theater wasn’t going to do anything about it.  We asked them to restart it, since we paid $15 each for the tickets.  He said they couldn’t..  Most of us were not happy.  So we started to catch up watching and trying to figure out what was going on when it shut off and they had come back in and advised us that they ‘got permission’ to restart it.

I’m really glad they did cause those first few minutes that we missed were pretty vital to his story.  Of course I will not give any of the story away here, but I do have to say that it was a wonderful story and I wished I would have saw this in person.  It’s a side of Glenn Beck that you don’t see on TV.  (Which I can’t wait for him to get on with Fox)

An excellent show and an excellent story was told.  I highly recommend watching it if you can, or read the book.  I know I’m going to go out and get his book and read it.

A Christmas Carol *Update*

Last night we had a really fun night.  We went with a couple friends to the Dallas Theater Center to watch “A Christmas Carol.”

In my last post A Christmas Carol I pointed out that it’s been awhile since I have been to any type of play and last confirmed again how I love going to watch them.

The Dallas Theater Center is a rather small but very intimate place.  There is not one bad seat in the house.  We got lucky and our friends tickets were about the 6th row center and couldn’t have been better.  The story line was good as always and the cast was fantastic.  The props/set was designed really good and everything seemed to transition smoothly from set to set.  Scrooge was played brilliantly and the kids did wonderful.  All very talented.  I hope to see this again next year to what has changed.  This is our friends 4th year of going and still enjoy it like the first.  I would recommend this to anyone in the Dallas area.

So I looked ahead for the next summer season of plays/musicals coming to Dallas/Fort Worth and here is my list of the ones I want to see:

  • Fiddler on the Roof
  • Happy Days
  • Wizard of Oz
  • Mary Poppins

A Christmas Carol

So tonight the wife and I and 2 friends are heading in to Dallas to watch ‘A Christmas Carol‘.  It should be lots of fun I’m certain.  The last time I went to a play or musical was over 5 years ago.  I think the last one was Beauty and the Beast (which was really great).  Our friends go every year and watch this, so it will be our first time.

Maybe tonight will spark or renew interest in going to more plays through out the year.  I would love to see Phantom of the Opera.  I’m trying to think back at all the other ones I have seen in the past and which were my favorites.

What I have seen:
Showboat
Grease (with Rosie OD – Long time ago)
Peter Pan
Stomp
Beauty and the Beast

I’m sure there are a couple more I just can’t remember them.  One of these days I have a goal/dream to go to a play in New York on Broadway.

Short and Slow, How was Yours?

Wow it’s Sunday night already.  Another weekend down.  This weekend seemed to move really slow.  Wait..  Maybe that’s cause I didn’t do a thing today but just sit here all day long.

OK, so it started off yesterday with some soccer practice.  That was a fun 2 hours in the sun.  Then I helped my wife get her classroom ready for the kiddo’s that start tomorrow.  I finished up the night watching Street Kings, which I have to say was a really good movie.

This morning I played around with mazzie (our dog) and lounging around really.  I did some work around the house but not much really.  Ended up watching Coyote Ugly.  Not too bad of a movie really.  Then we watched this new DVD I got.  David Crowder Band Remedy DVD + CD..  That was simply awesome.  Finished up the night and currently watching the closing ceremonies of the Olympics.

Now don’t get me wrong I like watching the Olympics but sometimes when they show the same sport over and over again (*cough, cough, swimming, gymnastics, diving, volleyball) it gets old quick.

So did you all have a good weekend?

Weekend Greatness

Side Note: I meant to post this on Monday or Tuesday but the work and family schedule has been busy this week so here it is.  [my little disclaimer]

This weekend we decided to do some project work around the house since we actually didn’t have any major plans on Saturday.  Over the course of the last year, storm winds and erosion have pushed our back fence the other way and it had a major lean.  I talked with a good neighbor that we have and we looked at it and figured out we both could just do the work and save tons of money hiring someone to come out and do it.  So we decided that we would tear it down and clean out the post holes and then re-cement the holes and put the fence back up.

Hammer Problems

Hammer Problems

We started about 6:45am when it was getting light out and finished up about 11:30am.  It was so hot out.  Between the 2 of us we took down about 18 bottles of water.  Have to keep hydrated you know!

Saturday afternoon I had a soccer practice to attend to for about 1.5 hours and then after that Lou, our friend in our community group had invited some people over for some dinner feasting and then to finish up the night watching the UFC fights [#87].  That was a lot of fun, hanging out with friends and meeting new ones.  I had never watched an UFC fight before and wasn’t sure I was going to like it, but it was really interesting and fun.  The drawback though I was so tired and exhausted that after the second fight I was starting to fall asleep and we had to call it a night.  Overall it was a nice and exciting party.

I Need a Break

The other day I was talking to my cousin who lives in Vegas (She moved there for a teacher job) and we talked about how fun it would be to fly out there and visit her.  If we are lucky we only get to see each other maybe 1 time per year.  However the drawback is the cost of the flights.  We thought about just staying with her in her apartment but Leslie never really has experienced Vegas like I have.  So if we go I think we will check out the new las vegas hotels.

The last time I was there was years ago, probably at least 8 I would say, except to connect at the airport (where I won $100, lol).  There have been quite a few new hotels that have popped up since then and I would love to go check them out.  And it is such a huge place we better take some walking shoes too.  I think I will start planning a little trip maybe this winter or spring.
