Last Nights Clouds

By now if you have looked at, seen or even read parts of this blog, you can tell that I love taking pictures of storms and cloud formations.  So this post is no different. lol

Last night we had a storm pop up to the South of us and of course it wasn’t coming at us, but with the sun starting to set, it made for some good pictures.

Here are my 3 favorites:

Peeking Through

The other morning I was outside watering the flowers before I took off to work and we had some tons of rain and i looked over toward the east and caught the sun rising up through the clouds.

Here are two shots:

Yes I know they are the best photo’s, but wanted to share them.

Weekend Greatness

Side Note: I meant to post this on Monday or Tuesday but the work and family schedule has been busy this week so here it is.  [my little disclaimer]

This weekend we decided to do some project work around the house since we actually didn’t have any major plans on Saturday.  Over the course of the last year, storm winds and erosion have pushed our back fence the other way and it had a major lean.  I talked with a good neighbor that we have and we looked at it and figured out we both could just do the work and save tons of money hiring someone to come out and do it.  So we decided that we would tear it down and clean out the post holes and then re-cement the holes and put the fence back up.

Hammer Problems

Hammer Problems

We started about 6:45am when it was getting light out and finished up about 11:30am.  It was so hot out.  Between the 2 of us we took down about 18 bottles of water.  Have to keep hydrated you know!

Saturday afternoon I had a soccer practice to attend to for about 1.5 hours and then after that Lou, our friend in our community group had invited some people over for some dinner feasting and then to finish up the night watching the UFC fights [#87].  That was a lot of fun, hanging out with friends and meeting new ones.  I had never watched an UFC fight before and wasn’t sure I was going to like it, but it was really interesting and fun.  The drawback though I was so tired and exhausted that after the second fight I was starting to fall asleep and we had to call it a night.  Overall it was a nice and exciting party.

Watch out While Hiking

Back in my home state (Washington) last weekend a pretty tragic accident happened.  One boy (14) and one adult were out bear hunting.  And before I go on, I will just state for the record that there is no law against a 14 year old that hunts and it is legal in this area for bear hunting.

Now Pamela Almli (54) was hiking with a friend around 10:30am last Saturday.  Pamela stopped on the trail (which according to the reports was a very popular hiking area) and bent over to put something into her backpack.  Then this accident took place.  The 14 year old boy mistakenly thought it was a bear and fired a fatal shot.

I can’t imagine what both families are feeling or thinking right now.
Just a horrible accident.

Morning Beauty

Right before I left this morning for work, I walked out back to water the flowers before another 100+ degree day.  (They say this will be day 12 of the last 13 for 100+)  When I got out back, the sky looked so awesome and it looked like parts of it were on fire.  So I went in and grabbed my crappy camera and snapped some shots of it.

After I left for work I was driving north and saw some cool rain clouds so I snapped a few pictures of those clouds too.  Here is one of them:

Project Update

I thought I should give a project update since I haven’t said much about it.  I think we finally stopped for the weekend about 9:45pm Sunday night.  It was pretty dark out, but it was much cooler than standing in the sun when it’s beating down on you.

So after we placed the border we mixed in some top soil and then some garden soil, and finally put down a weed control barrier over the whole thing.  That where we stopped!  However my wife leaves for Mexico this Saturday so if we don’t get the plants planted and the mulch thrown down, looks like tazdog will have a long weekend finishing up the project by himself :O

It’s been a somewhat fun experience and at least I’m learning some new things.

Landscaping Project

Today we started our landscaping project.  Not really sure what we were thinking since it’s 95 out.  However Thursday night we said we were going to do it so here we are.  For starters I had soccer practice this morning so I was already in the hot sun for at least 2 hours, more like 2.5 hours.  But when I got home, Leslie had already started cleaning up the old dirt and pulling a few weeds that were still alive.

When I got home we decided to get about 1 more hour in on the flower bed before the heat really hit.  So we started working on the border stone first.  We figured that was what we needed to do.  I’m going to show a couple before pictures and a couple current pictures.  We stopped after we got the stone border done, cause it was really way to hot out.  Plus we wanted to go to the movies in the heat of the day and pick back up later tonight after the heat goes down.

Here is what we have so far:

3-Day Weekend Checklist

OK so someone asked me earlier today what I was going to do tomorrow (The 4th) and the rest of the weekend, and at the time I said, I really have no clue, probably nothing.

Wow that is a PACKED weekend…

Anyone have a crazy schedule like this or something else planned for this weekend?

Weekend Project

So tonight after dinner we drove down to Wally World to get 2 things.  And when I say 2 things, that doesn’t mean we left with 2 things!  ha ha

We have been wanting to do something with our front flower bed ever since we moved into our house and just have never done anything with it.  So as we are walking in to the lawn and garden section (I had to get a new sprinkler) we stopped by the plants.  After about 10 minutes of going back and forth, we decided this was the weekend, and let’s just get it done.

For starters we already have 5 4.5 holly bushes and we want to keep those.  So we ended up with 7 plants, 5 bags of cedar mulch and 6 bags of top soil.  Tomorrow afternoon we are going to Lowe’s and buying 23 rock blocks to border the flower bed and then Saturday getting down and dirty, lol..  I’m sure all my blogging friends want to come to North Texas and help us out since it will be like 98 Saturday.

I plan on taking pics throughout this whole process.  Not only is this my first MAJOR outdoor project, we both really don’t know what we are doing, lol…..

Pictures to come….
