Last week we were short listed for a possible adoption of a 4 month old girl. We are 1 of 5 families that were picked to be potential parents. Our Agency advocate will meet with CPS tomorrow and find out more about the child and then show off our home study and our life book (scrap book) that we created. We have been praying ever since we found out about the short listing.
I’m not sure if they will actually make their decision tomorrow night but it’s a possibility. If we are awarded the adoption there is a good chance we will have her by this weekend or sometime next week. We are prepared and looking forward to this life changing addition that may be taking place. Sitting here thinking about it, I’m pretty excited at the chance and still extremely nervous at the same time. I’m not sure when the meeting is tomorrow, but I’m sure I will be thinking about it every minute tomorrow until I hear from our advocate.
I will update the blog of any possible news we get in the next few days.
My previous post mentioned how are are closing in on completing our process so we can adopt or foster a child in Texas. We have put the house through a few changes to get things ready so we pass our agency inspection. We have to follow some specific rules to qualify. Kind of like the child locks on the drawers and cupboards with bad things in them. Yeah those were a pain in the butt to install.
A couple weeks ago we got our verbal final approval for our foster/adopt license and we finally could take a breath. We started this process back in September with our classes and now we are approved. Now that things are finally hitting home, I think it might be time to check out some life insurance rates so I’m covered in case anything bad happens. Yeah I hate to think about it really, but it’s reality.
I will continue my adoption story later. For now the 2 year old girl we want to adopt has a court date in April and then we will know if she goes up for adoption.
Yep we have a big announcement to make which we have kept secret until we could tell our parents and family. Hopefully in 2009 we will be adopting a child and becoming parents.
The last 4-5 months have been pretty busy for us and for the people that are close to us will understand why we have been so busy. There is a lot that we had to do to get prepped to get our foster/adoption license for our local Christian agency. We have done tons of classes and tests to get prepared.
We have met a little 2 year old girl named Ella who our friends were respite care providing (since they are foster parents themselves) and we just fell in love with Ella. However Ella is not up for adoption yet and we wanted to be all prepared just in case she did come up for adoption. If it does not work out with Ella we will see where God takes us and what child he will bless us with.
Our parents are really excited about being first time grandparents. They are very much ready to have a grand child so we are happy for them as well.
As things progress I will either update my blog here or possibly start a new one.
So hopefully in 2009 we will become first time parents.
We are soooo excited!!!
Early this morning I heard a heart crushing story. Christian music artist Steven Curtis Chapman lost his 5 year old daughter in an accident. The sad news is that the driver of the SUV was her teenage brother in their own driveway. They have not released his name, but I can’t imagine the feeling. It is so sad.
And the strange part.. East Dallas the other night, there was a similar accident. The mother went out to the store at night, so dad took his 2 kids out side and they laid down in the driveway to look at the stars. Well dad feel asleep and did not hear his wife approaching and she just came up in the driveway and ran over their 2 year old child who died.
It’s just sad and crazy. 2 accidental run-overs by family members within 2 days.
Prayers go out to both families during this time.
