A Christmas Carol *Update*

Last night we had a really fun night.  We went with a couple friends to the Dallas Theater Center to watch “A Christmas Carol.”

In my last post A Christmas Carol I pointed out that it’s been awhile since I have been to any type of play and last confirmed again how I love going to watch them.

The Dallas Theater Center is a rather small but very intimate place.  There is not one bad seat in the house.  We got lucky and our friends tickets were about the 6th row center and couldn’t have been better.  The story line was good as always and the cast was fantastic.  The props/set was designed really good and everything seemed to transition smoothly from set to set.  Scrooge was played brilliantly and the kids did wonderful.  All very talented.  I hope to see this again next year to what has changed.  This is our friends 4th year of going and still enjoy it like the first.  I would recommend this to anyone in the Dallas area.

So I looked ahead for the next summer season of plays/musicals coming to Dallas/Fort Worth and here is my list of the ones I want to see:

  • Fiddler on the Roof
  • Happy Days
  • Wizard of Oz
  • Mary Poppins

A Christmas Carol

So tonight the wife and I and 2 friends are heading in to Dallas to watch ‘A Christmas Carol‘.  It should be lots of fun I’m certain.  The last time I went to a play or musical was over 5 years ago.  I think the last one was Beauty and the Beast (which was really great).  Our friends go every year and watch this, so it will be our first time.

Maybe tonight will spark or renew interest in going to more plays through out the year.  I would love to see Phantom of the Opera.  I’m trying to think back at all the other ones I have seen in the past and which were my favorites.

What I have seen:
Showboat
Grease (with Rosie OD – Long time ago)
Peter Pan
Stomp
Beauty and the Beast

I’m sure there are a couple more I just can’t remember them.  One of these days I have a goal/dream to go to a play in New York on Broadway.

The Last Day

Yesterday we went to the last day of the Texas State Fair.  It was such a nice day out too.  Upper 70′s maybe 80-81 but it was really nice.  Last year we didn’t go to the fair since I have Celiac disease it make it rather difficult to eat any of the fair foods.  I mean isn’t that the reason you really go to the state fair, to eat and eat fried fatty foods?  I know it used to be my reason.  Corn Dogs, funnel cakes, and belgium waffles, yummy.

So yesterday we really wanted to go.  My wife is a teacher and they get a free ticket so we decided since it was the last day lets just go out there for a few hours.  Glad we did, as I said before it was a really nice day and by the time we left around 4ish, the crowds were still not that bad for being a Sunday.

Overall we had a really fun time and did a couple things we have not done at the fair in years past.  Here are a couple of pictures that I took.

The Big Weekend is Here…

The 2008 Red River Rivalry.  (I still like Red River Shootout better)

Game takes place tomorrow in Dallas @ the Cotton Bowl around 11am cst.

Of course most will know that I will be cheering for Oklahoma and they better win and keep their #1 ranking in the country.  However, I do believe they will win tomorrow and go on to the National Championship this year…

Go Sooners..

Friday Night Fun and Prizes

Last Friday night my good friend invited me to Texas A&M Coaches Night in Dallas at Fair Park.  Now for those who don’t know me too well, I’m really an Oklahoma Sooners fan, but on occassion I will go to Texas A&M events with my good friend.  When we got there, people were just pouring in.  I didn’t think that this event would really be as big as it was.  I think the count hit about 1800.  They had some good food, although I could only eat some of the sliced beef without the sauce, but it was still good.

We ate and then we checked out the silent auction.  This is where we got into trouble.

Let me give you a background on this trouble.  Last year both of our wives went to an auction and ended up spending $600 ($300 each) on a bunch of items, so they warned us not to do any auction things.  We laughed!  So of course while we were walking around we saw a couple cool things to put a silent bid down on.

Then the party started and we listened to some speeches from people, and a retired coach and then this years new coach, Mike Sherman.  He carried on a little too much but not all that bad.  Once the talks were over we had 15 minutes to check out the auction items and get our final write in bids before time expired.  Uh OH!  The auction ended and we ended up winning both the items..  lol  I don’t think the wives will be too happy.

So you ask what did we win?

First before I get to that, I made a little side bet with my friend.  I told him after the initial offer that if we won this prize I would actually go out and buy a Texas A&M polo shirt and wear it to this event, if we won!

Well let me tell you that I need to start shopping.

Our first item we won was a suite at Lone Star Park (Horse Racing) for up to 25 people.  YEAH!  This will be really fun and it’s something that both our families enjoy.

Second prize (What I am buying the shirt for) Round trip charter airfare, and 2 tickets to the Iowa State Football game in October.  WOW..  This will be so much fun.!!  I’m actually pretty excited about this.  I’m not sure on the details of this one yet, but I would assume we would fly up, head to the game and then fly home the same day.

So overall Friday night was pretty fun and the auction was for a good cause.

Let football season begin!

Friday Local Shorts

Another episode of Friday Local Shorts:

DFW Airport:
This poor guy who was driving a service van lost consciousness and ran into a Boeing 717 yesterday.  The driver was taken to a Fort Worth hospital.  At the time the plane was boarding for a flight to Milwaukee.  The flight was canceled.

Dallas:
This 49-year-old woman is in custody accused of beating a 93-year-old neighbor.  What was she thinking.  Come on now, beating a 93-year-old, yeah she must be in the winner of the year club.  They found her laying in a pool of blood, and remains hospitalized in serious condition.  They think she might have been beaten with a hammer and other household utensils.

Forth Worth:
A 39-year-old woman and her 15-year-old son were arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing of a man last weekend.  Hall who was 52 was over visiting and got in an argument and the 15-year-old got involved and now William Hall is dead.  Come on, when there is a problem do you really have to kill everyone.  By now I would think that people know if you kill someone you go to prison for a very long time if not life!

Dallas:
Now check this out.  This guy decided to speed, and of course he lost control of his car, jumped a curb and plowed over 4 people on a sidewalk.  They gave the driver a sobriety test to see if he was drunk and he passed so no drinking and driving there.  2 men are in critical condidtion, 1 woman in serious condition, and the child’s status was unknown.
