My First Match Tomorrow Night

Well tomorrow night will be my first IDPA match.  I found a local club and a guy who I go to church with that talked me into it.  I have actually been wanting to try this for quite some time now and USPSA.  So I signed up for the new members shooting class 1 hour prior to the match and I think I have all the equipment I will need to see how bad I am for my first match.  I’m not too concerned since I have been shooting for many years, just not in a competition style shoot.

Hopefully Friday I can post another update that won’t be that bad about my first match results.

The Drive

It’s been a few years.  5 days a week.  Almost 52 weeks per year.  I drive the same route to work.  Now some days I may alter the way I go.  It all depends on traffic accidents, weather etc.  But for the most part it’s the same way.  Most of the time it’s rather boring.  I see the same ole stuff every day.  I pass by warehouses, homes, oil rigs, industrial equipment shops, parks, downtown Fort Worth, you get the idea.

I know most things are static, I get that.  Maybe I’m not wide awake while driving.  Either way I have to make it 28 miles to work.  At least when I was in Seattle I had huge tall trees and awesome mountain scapes to look at.  :)

Is your drive to work the same all the time?  What do you see when you drive back and forth to work?

Tournament Time

Today is the day for my soccer team to finally do something they have been training for this last 11 months.  Finally play in a competitive tournament.  The girls all seem to be ready, and if they are not well its too late since our first game is about 10 hours. lol

I think they are ready for this challenge and we are going to use these 3 games this weekend to help us get ready for the next tournament in 2 weeks in Austin.

Us coaches are pretty excited that the season is basically beginning and the girls get to finally start playing some games, etc.

I will drop some updates after we finish up some games.

More Friday Local Shorts

Here is another edition of some local short news stories from around my area!

Fort Worth:
Pier 1 is saying that they are going to close 20 to 25 stores by year end.  However the lucky people in the Dallas, Fort Worth Metroplex are saved as they said they shouldn’t be closing any of those stores.

DFW Airport:
Watch what your doing or else you might have your arm ran over by a forklift!  They airlifted him to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Grand Prairie:
What happens when you try to cover up something suspicious and don’t want anyone to find out about it?  You get stopped for a traffic violation and then the cops see suspicious package and it turns out to be ammonia (mainly used for meth (methamphetamine).  I guess they wont be dealing meth till they get some more.

Fort Worth:
Police got lucky looking for narcotics just to find out that the house they raided was running a pirating ring.  Police say they counted 113 burners, 3800 blank cd’s, 7000 blank dvd’s.  They were capable of producing 6700 discs per hour. — Link: Star-Telegram

Thursday Storms

So yesterday morning we had some pretty good storms blow there through.  The unfortunate part was that the storms were moving Southeast and I had drive Northwest.  So the entire drive I was heading into this downpour or rain and high winds.

Although it added about 15 minutes to the commute it wasn’t all that bad.  I like storms, so it didn’t bother me at all.

I actually wish I had my camera or video camera cause it was pretty crazy.  It was pretty light and then a couple minutes later it turned dark as night.  There was so much lightning I thought I was a pop star on the red carpet at one point.  lol

I’m sure most of our storms will not be severe (Tornados and Hail) but you never know.  I think we are supposed to dry out now for a few days..

Driving Crazy

Some days around here I have to wonder how people got their drivers license. People tend to float, speed, drive erratic, etc. It’s pretty crazy. Now, some days traffic is nice and just flows along without any issues. Now Fridays are something else all together. Fridays can either be mellow or look like something was just unleashed from hell or somewhere in between.

In fact just the other day on the morning commute some guy just about side swiped me without even looking. Maybe with all the craziness I should look into some cheap life insurance so my family is protected in case one day someone takes me out. lol :) A good point to bring up is the Fort Worth Police chase last night that nbc5 happen to cover watching this guy rip up and down residential neighborhoods at least at 60 mph. Thank goodness no one got hurt on that chase.

Now I’m sure this could differ from city to city, but in all seriousness there are times I wonder why everyone is in such a hurry that they have to do 75+ and weave in and out of everyone.

Back at the Zoo

So Monday I took my little brother (Big Brothers, Big Sisters) to the Zoo. I haven’t been in a couple of years and they have been advertising that they now had penguins again and this new exhibit for them. Lets just say that I wasn’t really impressed. It was cool to see the penguins but it is really nothing like the penguins exhibit at the Dallas World Aquarium.

Ok so we got to see some really cool animals. That’s one reason I like to go to the zoo. Of course some of the animals just like to sit or sleep. Then again it was close to 93 out. The coyotes and the mountain lions were all taking morning naps. The Elephants were pretty active. The Hippos barely came out of the water. (I wonder how long they can hold there breath) The Apes and Monkeys are always fun to watch.

Overall it was hot and humid but a fun day none the less..
