Other Methods to Move Around

Lately with the rising gas prices (that never seem to stop rising) some people are trying to find new ways to conserve or save money while commuting around.  Face it, gas prices stink really bad.

The news really tries to tell the story of the changing prices and changing methods for transportation.  One problem that some face, especially here in North Texas is the public transportation.  It’s horrible.  I remember back to when I was working in Seattle and I would take the bus every day to work.  It only cost me like $75 for a monthly pass.  But for those who can take public transportation it could save you a lot of money!  Also you see people (familiar or not) trading in their SUV’s and Trucks for Motorcycles or used Harleys as they get really good gas mileage.  The only drawback to this, is we might have a bunch of new riders that have never owned a motorcycle and in heavy traffic could cause issues with inexperience.

Other ways if you live close enough to work, are electric cars, hybrids, bicycles, scooters, etc.  Hopefully at some point these prices will drop off and make it reasonable again to have some fun around town and not judge your fun by cost per mile!

Friday Local Shorts

American Airlines is now charging for all checked luggage on their flights. Something like $15 for the first bad and $25 for the second. I understand that they are losing money because of fuel prices, but aren’t we all?

I think this could be a recipe for disaster. It really could be, travelers might stop flying cause the prices are through the roof. Maybe not. Maybe this is what American Airlines thinks will make the airline profitable. For me this and the fare increases will probably delay our summer trip to see the family in Seattle, cause it’s too expensive.

Gas in Grand Prairie - A local gas station was giving away 200 prepaid $40 gas cards yesterday. But was it really worth the wait in line? For this one local woman, she showed up at 4am and when the promotion started she was one of the first 10 to get the cards. Wow 6-7 hours really? for less than a tankful of gas? I think it’s great they are doing it, but even though the gas prices are hovering around $4 per gallon here, I think 6-7 hours of my time is worth more than sitting waiting for a prepaid card worth $40.

Stars - Well they didn’t make the cut. Better luck next year. (see that is short :))

And not so local:
Colorado - Huge tornado rips up some towns and kills 1. If you haven’t seen the video your local news or CNN or pretty much anyone has, you should watch it. It’s crazy… Click the CNN link.

Gas Prices Stink

I can’t believe how fast gas is moving up and up.

Back in March I thought the prices were getting pretty high around here but here are the last 2 days worth of prices from a gas station next to the highway.

4-21:
Reg. Unleaded $3.48/gallon
Middle Unleaded $3.63/gallon
Super Unleaded $3.78/gallon

4-22:
Reg. Unleaded $3.51/gallon
Middle Unleaded $3.66/gallon
Super Unleaded $3.81/gallon

Now I’m sure that some people that read this would be like, wow that is cheap or is cheaper than my area, and I get that. But in the past 5 years I have been in Texas it has NEVER been this high. Simply outrageous!!!

I’m going to key an eye on this and see how well it fluctuates this week and will report back.

Gas Prices

So yesterday morning I was close to work and I took notice of what the local Chevron had posted for regular gas.  They were showing it at $3.10 per gallon..  ugh..  That is getting pretty high for this area and it’s only March..

So on the way home, I drove past Chevron again, and it was now $3.16 per gallon..  At this rate I cannot wait to see what gas will be like during the summer.

But what can you do when you work 25 miles away, its not like I can walk, or ride my bike, especially this summer when it will be 104 out..  lmao…
