More Friday Local Shorts

Here is another edition of some local short news stories from around my area!

Fort Worth:
Pier 1 is saying that they are going to close 20 to 25 stores by year end.  However the lucky people in the Dallas, Fort Worth Metroplex are saved as they said they shouldn’t be closing any of those stores.

DFW Airport:
Watch what your doing or else you might have your arm ran over by a forklift!  They airlifted him to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Grand Prairie:
What happens when you try to cover up something suspicious and don’t want anyone to find out about it?  You get stopped for a traffic violation and then the cops see suspicious package and it turns out to be ammonia (mainly used for meth (methamphetamine).  I guess they wont be dealing meth till they get some more.

Fort Worth:
Police got lucky looking for narcotics just to find out that the house they raided was running a pirating ring.  Police say they counted 113 burners, 3800 blank cd’s, 7000 blank dvd’s.  They were capable of producing 6700 discs per hour. — Link: Star-Telegram

American Airlines is now charging for all checked luggage on their flights. Something like $15 for the first bad and $25 for the second. I understand that they are losing money because of fuel prices, but aren’t we all?

I think this could be a recipe for disaster. It really could be, travelers might stop flying cause the prices are through the roof. Maybe not. Maybe this is what American Airlines thinks will make the airline profitable. For me this and the fare increases will probably delay our summer trip to see the family in Seattle, cause it’s too expensive.

Gas in Grand Prairie - A local gas station was giving away 200 prepaid $40 gas cards yesterday. But was it really worth the wait in line? For this one local woman, she showed up at 4am and when the promotion started she was one of the first 10 to get the cards. Wow 6-7 hours really? for less than a tankful of gas? I think it’s great they are doing it, but even though the gas prices are hovering around $4 per gallon here, I think 6-7 hours of my time is worth more than sitting waiting for a prepaid card worth $40.

Stars - Well they didn’t make the cut. Better luck next year. (see that is short :))

And not so local:
Colorado - Huge tornado rips up some towns and kills 1. If you haven’t seen the video your local news or CNN or pretty much anyone has, you should watch it. It’s crazy… Click the CNN link.

Opening Night

When sports teams have opening nights, or inaugural seasons, they always give things away. They like to get a good fan base and keep them coming back over and over again. I remember going to sporting events growing up and we would get cool things like hats, balls, bats, soccer balls, etc. It was so much fun and dad would always find other games so I could get free things.

Well a new team is coming to Grand Prairie and they want to get a huge fan base and they are giving away something I have never, ever seen given away before. The Grand Prairie AirHogs Baseball team is going to give away a funeral at it’s June 3rd game. Complete with a casket, headstone, services and a plot. You can be buried or cremated, your choice.

So if you live in the area and want to take a shot and winning your on funeral, good luck and don’t have a heart attack over winning it!!!

Emerald Downs - Horse Workout Morning

So this morning I was able to join my family at Emerald Downs Horse Racing Track to watch 3 of his horses workout. It was fun to be back at the track. In Grand Prairie Lone Star Park usually is open from April to July for Thoroughbreds so it’s been awhile since I have been back to the track.

Usually we go every opening night at Lone Star Park, but it was last Thursday which I was in Seattle so I couldn’t go and Emerald Downs hasn’t opened yet.

Here in the yellow cap is one of my uncles horses:
Horse Training

After watching the 3 horses (not the 3 above) we went up to the trainers barn (about 15min away) to see the new Philly. RC Gangster (Uncles Horse) had a baby 6 days ago. She was so soft and fluffy. he he…

Here is a picture of mom and baby:

Looking forward to getting back and heading out to Lone Star Park for some good racing!
