A Long Weekend

It all started Friday afternoon.  I hadn’t felt good the previous few days and I just canceled going to an overnight retreat with a couple guys from our church.  I had then decide to leave work about 4:45pm and catch a high school soccer game that a player I coach is on.  Well I guess she didn’t show up, lol, so off I went at half time and headed home.  I cooked up some dinner and when Leslie got home we started talking about the phone call we got that her dad was in the ER and not feeling well.  As we gathered more information it wasn’t sounding good, so we started planning a trip to their home town.  (2.5 hour drive)  Then we get a call cause the hospital where he was at freaked out and called in a helicopter to take him to Oklahoma City.  Wow, Great.

So we started to panic pack and found a home for our dog for the night and next thing  you know, we are leaving the house on a 3.5 hour trip at 10:40pm.  We arrived at the hospital about 2:15am and then arrived to the hotel about 4:00am and the bed about 4:30am.

The next morning we were up about 8:00am and back to the hospital.

We spent most of Saturday at the hospital.  This morning as we were driving from the hotel to the hospital we learned that my father in laws sister has having heart issues and was transferred to the hospital around 3:30am, so we spent time with her today while they were diagnosing her problems.

So now it’s almost 8pm and I’m writing this from the hospital.  Looks like tomorrow we might be going home with my father in law going home on Tuesday.  My wife’s aunt however probably not for awhile.  Her heart cath showed no blockages but after the ultrasound I guess she might have leaky heart valves.  We will know for sure tomorrow after the doctor visit.

I hope you had a better weekend than we did.

We have some friends not feeling good.

I’m not really sure whats going on.  For some reason right now we seem to know about 4 people with cancer.  Pretty scary stuff.  One is five years old, one is thirteen, and 2 older people.  I’m not sure what kind of cancer they have but I’m pretty sure it’s not Mesothelioma.  Haley the five year old has been battling it now for over one year.  Right now she is day to day and there is not much more they can do.  A friend at work, her cousin just had a bone marrow transplant.  He was in pretty bad shape.  I haven’t heard of a new update but I think he is doing OK.

Cancer is pretty scary if you ask me.  I pray for our friends and others who are going through this and battling this horrible disease.

Flowers, and an update.

My in-laws, despite the hospital visit there were having (FIL’s Back Surgery) they still sent my mom flowers for her surgery.

The flowers they sent were really pretty, so I thought I would give a plug for the Florist.

Update:
She is doing fairly well. She had a leak test to make sure nothing is leaking from her surgery and all is good, so she is awaiting an ‘OK’ from the doc to have an ice cube.

Still no word on release, but it’s looking like Sunday night or Monday morning for sure.

2:53pm pdt update:
So now she can up to 60mL of water per hour (which is 2 to 3 swallows to most everyone)
She is finally getting some sleep off and on.
And if tomorrow goes well with 3 meals, than she will be discharged after dinner tomorrow night.

Off to Seattle

Looks like my mom’s surgery has been moved up from May to April, so it looks like I get to head home to Seattle sooner than later.  It’s been since last July since I have been home last and I’m looking forward to it.

I also hope I will be able to check out a Seattle Sounders game while I’m there..
