Texas A&M in Iowa

Saturday was quite the long day.  But if you ask me, I will say it was worth it.

Saturday morning started off by driving over to my friends house as we were going to drive up to the airport together.  We got to Dallas Love Field around 12:15pm as we had to get through security.  Our Charter plane (by Southwest Airlines) took off about 2pm and it was a somewhat short flight and we got there about 3:45pm.

Once we hit the ground there were 3 tour buses ready to pick us up.  Once we all boarded we were off to Iowa State University.  I think we got to the stadium about 5pm (1 hour prior to kickoff) and walked around and took some pictures.  Of course the game started shortly after that and it was a good football game.  Go Aggies!  Texas A&M won 49-35.  After the game we headed back to the buses were we had to wait up to 45 minutes to get everyone back on board to make our way back to the Airport in Des Moines.  Once we arrived at the airport we had to all go through security again (which seemed to take forever) and once we were aboard the Southwest Pilots got us home in quick fashion.  We landed back in Dallas about 1:45am, and we drove back to my friends house, picked up my car and drove home.  I got to bed about 3:15am.

It was a very, very long day, but one I hope to remember forever.

Friday Night Fun and Prizes

Last Friday night my good friend invited me to Texas A&M Coaches Night in Dallas at Fair Park.  Now for those who don’t know me too well, I’m really an Oklahoma Sooners fan, but on occassion I will go to Texas A&M events with my good friend.  When we got there, people were just pouring in.  I didn’t think that this event would really be as big as it was.  I think the count hit about 1800.  They had some good food, although I could only eat some of the sliced beef without the sauce, but it was still good.

We ate and then we checked out the silent auction.  This is where we got into trouble.

Let me give you a background on this trouble.  Last year both of our wives went to an auction and ended up spending $600 ($300 each) on a bunch of items, so they warned us not to do any auction things.  We laughed!  So of course while we were walking around we saw a couple cool things to put a silent bid down on.

Then the party started and we listened to some speeches from people, and a retired coach and then this years new coach, Mike Sherman.  He carried on a little too much but not all that bad.  Once the talks were over we had 15 minutes to check out the auction items and get our final write in bids before time expired.  Uh OH!  The auction ended and we ended up winning both the items..  lol  I don’t think the wives will be too happy.

So you ask what did we win?

First before I get to that, I made a little side bet with my friend.  I told him after the initial offer that if we won this prize I would actually go out and buy a Texas A&M polo shirt and wear it to this event, if we won!

Well let me tell you that I need to start shopping.

Our first item we won was a suite at Lone Star Park (Horse Racing) for up to 25 people.  YEAH!  This will be really fun and it’s something that both our families enjoy.

Second prize (What I am buying the shirt for) Round trip charter airfare, and 2 tickets to the Iowa State Football game in October.  WOW..  This will be so much fun.!!  I’m actually pretty excited about this.  I’m not sure on the details of this one yet, but I would assume we would fly up, head to the game and then fly home the same day.

So overall Friday night was pretty fun and the auction was for a good cause.

Let football season begin!
