Walking for a Cause

I couldn’t imagine living with or taking care of someone that has Alzheimer’s.  I’m sure it’s a tough road to go down.  Here are a couple quick facts:

  • Every 71 seconds, someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S.

Wow every 71 seconds that is just crazy to me.  And by the time I finish talking about this more people will have been diagnosed.

Do you know of someone that has this disease?
Have you ever known a friend or family member who has taken care of someone with this disease?

If not, that’s why I’m talking today about The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk.

Here is an overview:
The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk® is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are walks in more than 600 communities. A typical Memory Walk is a 2-3 mile walk held on a weekend morning in the fall.

By teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association, you can walk with a purpose – and move us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s. Together, we can MOVE a nation.

After looking over the site I found a local walk in my city coming this October. It’s a couple miles and a couple hours of your time to raise money to fight this disease. I encourage everyone to sign up and raise some money for this great cause.

Together we can move a nation! Sign up to be a team captain today.

Happy Camper she is

For my wife’s birthday a couple weeks ago, I decided to replace her aging old p4 laptop that she has been using for awhile now.  She really needed something new.  Not to mention that every time there was an issue and I had to work on it, the slowness would always kill me.  Most of the laptops these days are pretty decent with the specs they come with, but with Vista I wanted to make sure it would handle the new OS.

So I found a pretty decent Toshiba on sale that was in a pretty good price range for me.  It came with a dual proc cpu and 2 gigs of computer memory, a 160gb hard drive which is a pretty good sized drive, DVD burner, and all the little stuff.

So far she is pretty happy with it and it turned out to be a good birthday!

Work has been crazy

Yes I do work full time as an IT systems administrator and lately things seem to be out of control. Ever since I got back from Seattle in mid-april everything has been a blur. Just go, go, go… and so on..

This week alone I have been trying to learn VMware, Sql, SharePoint and it’s only Tuesday. Not to mention we have had some issues with our email server (Exchange) so that has taken up a lot of time. If it’s not one thing it’s another and sometimes I think I’m losing my memory and gaining some gray hairs…!! HA ha, ha, wouldn’t that be something. I’m just pressing forward in hopes that things will slow down and I can catch up and get some other things done.

Speaking of other things, today or should I say this morning I had 6 people come to me within 30 minute time frame because they forgot the password they changed yesterday and were all locked out of the network, lol… That cracks me up every single time.
