Soccer Update

Well are are getting close to our first tournament and things are starting to click into place.  It doesn’t really help that we have a couple girls out still on vacation.

Now we just need to focus more on strategy and playing on the field that way we can be one complete team.

This last weekend we had a pretty good practice before the heat started taking over since it’s been so hot!!!
We were able to work on some agility drills and then we split the offense and defense up to work on more individualized drills for that specific area.

Tonight we will see what we can really do since it’s supposed to reach 106 today.

Soccer in my blood? Maybe mini soccer balls?

While I don’t watch every match every weekend, or go see the local professional team every game, that doesn’t mean I love soccer.  I grew up playing soccer with my dad coaching me almost my entire youth soccer career (I think 1 year I played on another team) and I have also accumulated about 15 years of coaching experience at all youth levels.

Now that I’m coaching once again after a year or two off, I have jumped back into or onto a competitive soccer team.  Yep I have probably written something about them before but we are a new team that has been training for almost the last year in preparation to move into the competitive leagues.  So naturally I’m now interested in following all of the competitive clubs in the area.  Now we are not a Lake Highlands team (Lake highlands is the premier competitive league in North Texas) so I don’t mind checking out how other teams do especially since they represent North Texas Youth Soccer.

So this week (started last night) is the Youth National Championships.  There are quite a few North Texas teams that have made it and are playing for the National Title in there age division.  So here are the current results up to this time.  Most of these teams have played 2 games already in there bracket:

U18:
Sting Dallas 90 - 2-0-0 (1st Place)

U17:
Dallas Texans 91 Red - 1-0-0 (1st Place)
** Play 2nd game tonight at 7pm**

U16:
Dallas Texans 92 Red - 1-0-1 (1st Place)
Sting Dallas Royal 92 - 0-1-1 (3rd Place)

U15:
Dallas Texans 93 Red - 0-0-2 (2nd Place)

U14:
D’Feeters 94 - 0-1-1 (3rd Place)

Good luck to the North Texas Teams..

I will update and post new scores when they come available.

Soccer Team Moving Forward

Our soccer team is moving forward after a long training streak.  This week we have finally got our team registered and then today we have applied and registered for our first two tournaments.

Basically we have until August 15th to get this team of 13 ready (maybe 14) for there first shot at competitive soccer.  We are participating in a tournament in Fort Worth that weekend, and they will probably get 3 games on Saturday alone.  I guess it just depends on the number of teams.  Then labor day weekend the team is going to head south a few hours down to Austin, TX.  This should be a fun tournament as this will be right before league play starts and we are not playing at home!  lol   It should be a lot of fun..

League play starts 1 or 2 weeks after that till early December.  So the season is starting after 9 months of hard training.

The Season Starts

Well the season starts today.
North Texas Competitive Girls Soccer.

You can hold tryouts at any time from July 1st to the 10th.

So tonight is our first night as a new competitive team.  I really don’t think we did enough recruiting or advertising, but we will see what happens.

If no new girls show up then we might have to combine teams and I don’t think the parents really want to do that, but on the flip side I don’t want to lose the team and then they all don’t get to play.  Not to mention we have all really worked hard the last 9 months to get ready for today!

So I’m about to leave work and head on out to the field…

Storm Damage

After I left the Dallas, Fort Worth area for Seattle on last Wed., The metroplex took a beating. Various tornado warned storms ripped through the area. First of all our house did not have any damage (thank goodness) however our friends down in Alvarado did not escape entirely.

Here are a couple of pictures they took and emailed me. It’s pretty wild how the sign is actually under the car. In addition to these pictures they lost both of the storage sheds. There neighbors however lost all their windows.

Soccer ODP Championships

This past weekend Frisco, TX held the ODP Championships for the ‘91 and ‘92 age bracket. North Texas ODP was represented in both age group.

The tournament was supposed to start on Friday but all games were canceled due to snow/weather.

So Saturday ‘92 North Texas played Maryland and won 2:1 and the ‘91 North Texas team won out over Minnesota 7:1 to make the championship game on Sunday.

Sunday’s Championship Pairings:

‘91 Girls - North Texas vs. New Jersey
‘92 Girls - North Texas vs . California South

Here are the results of this weekend:

‘91 girls won 2:1 over New Jersey - ** Congrats North Texas ’91’s **
‘92 girls lost 0:1 to California South

I’m sure these games were exciting to watch and wish I would have had the time to head up to Pizza Hut Park and watch these games…
