It’s Over

Well the tournament ended for us last night after the third game and even though we lost all three games, it was a huge learning experience for the girls and they finally get to know what it is like to play in competitive soccer.

The first game Friday night as a blow-out 0-7 to Tyler Tsunami 95.  This was our first game to play competitive and the first game since last spring.  Our girls were really nervous and that played a huge part.

Saturday morning we played Fort Worth United 95 Blue and we played a lot better but started to fall apart in the second half.  It was good to play this team as they will be in our league come September.  WE lost 0-5.

Saturday evening we played East Texas Elite 95 and we lost 1-3.  This was a really good pair up and we should have won this game but we still are not clicking and communicating as a team.

In less than 2 weeks we will be heading for Austin for our second pre-league tournament.

Tournament Time

Today is the day for my soccer team to finally do something they have been training for this last 11 months.  Finally play in a competitive tournament.  The girls all seem to be ready, and if they are not well its too late since our first game is about 10 hours. lol

I think they are ready for this challenge and we are going to use these 3 games this weekend to help us get ready for the next tournament in 2 weeks in Austin.

Us coaches are pretty excited that the season is basically beginning and the girls get to finally start playing some games, etc.

I will drop some updates after we finish up some games.

Weekend Greatness

Side Note: I meant to post this on Monday or Tuesday but the work and family schedule has been busy this week so here it is.  [my little disclaimer]

This weekend we decided to do some project work around the house since we actually didn’t have any major plans on Saturday.  Over the course of the last year, storm winds and erosion have pushed our back fence the other way and it had a major lean.  I talked with a good neighbor that we have and we looked at it and figured out we both could just do the work and save tons of money hiring someone to come out and do it.  So we decided that we would tear it down and clean out the post holes and then re-cement the holes and put the fence back up.

Hammer Problems

Hammer Problems

We started about 6:45am when it was getting light out and finished up about 11:30am.  It was so hot out.  Between the 2 of us we took down about 18 bottles of water.  Have to keep hydrated you know!

Saturday afternoon I had a soccer practice to attend to for about 1.5 hours and then after that Lou, our friend in our community group had invited some people over for some dinner feasting and then to finish up the night watching the UFC fights [#87].  That was a lot of fun, hanging out with friends and meeting new ones.  I had never watched an UFC fight before and wasn’t sure I was going to like it, but it was really interesting and fun.  The drawback though I was so tired and exhausted that after the second fight I was starting to fall asleep and we had to call it a night.  Overall it was a nice and exciting party.

Soccer Update

Well are are getting close to our first tournament and things are starting to click into place.  It doesn’t really help that we have a couple girls out still on vacation.

Now we just need to focus more on strategy and playing on the field that way we can be one complete team.

This last weekend we had a pretty good practice before the heat started taking over since it’s been so hot!!!
We were able to work on some agility drills and then we split the offense and defense up to work on more individualized drills for that specific area.

Tonight we will see what we can really do since it’s supposed to reach 106 today.

Soccer in my blood? Maybe mini soccer balls?

While I don’t watch every match every weekend, or go see the local professional team every game, that doesn’t mean I love soccer.  I grew up playing soccer with my dad coaching me almost my entire youth soccer career (I think 1 year I played on another team) and I have also accumulated about 15 years of coaching experience at all youth levels.

Now that I’m coaching once again after a year or two off, I have jumped back into or onto a competitive soccer team.  Yep I have probably written something about them before but we are a new team that has been training for almost the last year in preparation to move into the competitive leagues.  So naturally I’m now interested in following all of the competitive clubs in the area.  Now we are not a Lake Highlands team (Lake highlands is the premier competitive league in North Texas) so I don’t mind checking out how other teams do especially since they represent North Texas Youth Soccer.

So this week (started last night) is the Youth National Championships.  There are quite a few North Texas teams that have made it and are playing for the National Title in there age division.  So here are the current results up to this time.  Most of these teams have played 2 games already in there bracket:

U18:
Sting Dallas 90 - 2-0-0 (1st Place)

U17:
Dallas Texans 91 Red - 1-0-0 (1st Place)
** Play 2nd game tonight at 7pm**

U16:
Dallas Texans 92 Red - 1-0-1 (1st Place)
Sting Dallas Royal 92 - 0-1-1 (3rd Place)

U15:
Dallas Texans 93 Red - 0-0-2 (2nd Place)

U14:
D’Feeters 94 - 0-1-1 (3rd Place)

Good luck to the North Texas Teams..

I will update and post new scores when they come available.

Soccer Team Moving Forward

Our soccer team is moving forward after a long training streak.  This week we have finally got our team registered and then today we have applied and registered for our first two tournaments.

Basically we have until August 15th to get this team of 13 ready (maybe 14) for there first shot at competitive soccer.  We are participating in a tournament in Fort Worth that weekend, and they will probably get 3 games on Saturday alone.  I guess it just depends on the number of teams.  Then labor day weekend the team is going to head south a few hours down to Austin, TX.  This should be a fun tournament as this will be right before league play starts and we are not playing at home!  lol   It should be a lot of fun..

League play starts 1 or 2 weeks after that till early December.  So the season is starting after 9 months of hard training.
