Memorial Storms

Back  on Memorial day weekend we went up to Oklahoma to my wife’s parents house for Friday night and Saturday night.  We went to celebrate her grandmothers birthday and mine.  But the real emphasis was on Nany.

It was a little humid that day with a couple brief spats of sprinkles.  Then during the party I kept watching these cells building off in the distance which provided (in my opinion) awesome pictures.  It was kind of hard to pay close attention to the party.  Which for me was tough cause I love storms, storm structure, etc.

Here are a few pics from that day.

Glad the Weekend is here

Granted there is still 9 hours left in the work day, but hey, it’s Friday right?

I have a semi busy weekend planned out.  Although the rain and storms today and tonight might put some of those off.

If the rain calms down by 5ish we decided to head out to the horse races.  It will be the first live race for us this racing season.  We really enjoy going out there.

Saturday morning we will be having our last spring league soccer game (if the weather holds) and then hopefully that will be followed up by a 2-3 week break.  I think the team is burned out and they do not want to give it there all anymore.  In fact two days ago at practice it was a horrible turnout and most of them (90%) just wanted to be lazy and walk around.  If they were able to drive I would have just canceled practice since they were wasting my time.

Saturday Evening we are going out to dinner some friends from church.  It should be a lot of fun and to hang out with them.

Sunday morning is church and then in the evening community group so that will round out our weekend pretty much.

Any big plans?
What are you going to be doing?

The Weekend Blew By..

In more ways than one.  It was pretty windy out almost all weekend.  At times it felt like there were gusts between 25-30 mph with sustained winds in the teens.  Our backyard patio chairs moved a few feet Saturday.

Secondly Saturday and Sunday seemed like a disappearing act.  It went by really fast.  Saturday we had two soccer practices.  The first one from 9:00am to 11:00am and the our afternoon practice was 3:00pm to 5:00pm.  Toward the end of the afternoon practice I almost let them out late as I wasn’t paying attention to the time.  Maybe I need to finally get a watch or something.  I should check out Oakley watches, as they have some really nice ones.

Sunday was more laid back.  Church in the morning and the our small group that evening.

To finish out the weekend I awoke this morning about 3:00am with a huge wind and rain storm pounding against the house.  I stayed awake long enough to realize it was the storm finally hitting and then I went right back to sleep.

How was your weekend.?

The Changes are Coming

And I hope in a good way..

One change, the weather.  I think our nightly lows are creeping to the upper 40’s, low 50’s which is nice and that also means (I hope) that winter is nearing it’s end and spring is around the corner.  Forecasts show possible thunderstorms Monday through Wednesday with some potentially reaching slight severe levels..  YES..  Bring on the storms..  Although this might impact soccer practice, but I welcome the heavy rains and thunderstorms.  (that’s one of the things I like about Texas)

Speaking of soccer, we are only one week from spring league starting up.  Wow we are in bad shape too..  The girls decided over winter break to not practice and we are now behind schedule getting everything ready for the spring opener.  Maybe that is why we are having two practices tomorrow. hmmm..

That’s probably the only two big changes at this point.  Oh, we did get our final approval for our Adoption/Foster license so that was some good news..

Nice Weather

Today has started from bad and has progressed to worse.  This ice storm is nuts.  Of course some of you readers will be like “yeah whatever” but for Texas, ice storms can cause havoc.

Tonight on the way home from work I saw 2 accidents with one a rollover within 1/2 mile of leaving work.  Then saw about 6 more accidents on the way home.  Four of these had cars on the side or completely rolled over.

The main freezing rain and sleet is hitting right now and should last a few hours.  We are sitting about 30 degrees and by the morning commute time we should be about 26.  I sure hope they have the bridges and overpasses sanded better than then did tonight cause tomorrow morning will take me forever to get to work..

To warm up the ice I post this:

What are People Thinking

I have been watching 4 video streams of Houston News channels today and they are covering the coast area and talking with people and they have been reporting flooding and storm surge already and the eye of the hurricane still isn’t close to landfall.  I think we are still 12 hours away from that.  I think a lot of homes will be destroyed.  So hence the title of my post, I can’t believe what some people think.  Some people that they have interviewed on TV had decided to just stay and ride out the storm.  I guess they don’t care that forecasters keep warning people that if they don’t leave it could be ‘Certain Death’  I don’t know about you but after watching this storm and all the reports about it, I would leave..  This storm is massive.  In fact the track it’s taken we are going to see above rainfall averages for our area and sustained winds to 50mph for several hours.  In fact they just issued a flash flood watch for the Dallas, Fort Worth area.

I know this storm would be FUN to watch, but not at the chance of losing your life over it.   I hope they really  decide to leave.  They still have a couple hours to get out.

Last Nights Clouds

By now if you have looked at, seen or even read parts of this blog, you can tell that I love taking pictures of storms and cloud formations.  So this post is no different. lol

Last night we had a storm pop up to the South of us and of course it wasn’t coming at us, but with the sun starting to set, it made for some good pictures.

Here are my 3 favorites:

Out the back

Last night after the weather started to cool down [to 96] I started to go out back and start to water the flowers and get some water on the back yard lawn and while I was starting to walk toward the door I saw this:

It was weird as we were really not expecting any weather like this close to us.  Although this isn’t really close but close enough.  A little while later even though this was so far away, we had some brief intense wind gusts and steady wind for probably an hour.  It kicked up a lot of dust and dirt and it was flying everywhere.  I think the closest reporting station to our house showed wind about 28.8 mph with a gust to 35…  It was just weird.  Weather man said the outflow from the collapsing cell pushed the intense wind northward toward us.  It was to have a temporarily 15 degree cool down though..!!
