Vacation time was fun

So vacation time came and went. Although they always seem rather short, we sure had fun in short order.

1st day was a very long and tiring and exhausting day at Sea world. Now it was fun and all but wow was it hot and expensive. The boys had a blast and we did enjoy the shows.  We opened the place up and closed it down.  It was a long day.  Our second day was more of a relaxing nature since we were in the heat and on our feet all day yesterday.  We did some swimming and they we went into the little town close to where we were staying.  They had a frontier museum which was maybe 40% frontier related but we went through it anyways.  Next we walked around to some of the local shops on main street.  On the third day we took a cave tour at Natural Bridge Caverns.  Now that was a lot of fun.  It was 3/4 of a mile long and we got about 180 feet below the surface. After the Caverns we headed toward downtown and went to the Alamo. That was a lot of fun especially since I had never been there before.

After touring the Alamo and taking as many pictures as we could, we walked down to the river walk and just strolled around. It was pretty fun. It would have been more fun if I didn’t have Celiac Disease and I could just plop down where ever and get some dinner. So after trying to figure all that out, we opted to leave and just head back to the place we were staying and just cook some dinner. The next day was going to be a full one as well. We ended up driving North to Fredericksburg. We went there about 1 year ago to a bed and breakfast and just loved the town and atmosphere of the area. So we went to Wild Seed farms. This place is really cool. Lots of Wild Flowers and a butterfly exhibit. We also ventured to a WWII Pacific Museum. They added on since the last time we were there and we actually ran out of time to see the entire place. Or should I say time to absorb that much military history. We drove up and down main street a couple of times and stopped at the Amish store and then off to dinner. After dinner we went out to the Old Tunnel to watch the bat emergence. We had seen this before but wanted the boys to witness 1+ million bats flying out of a tunnel. It’s such an awesome experience. This time we sat at the lower level and we had bats flying right above our heads. So cool..!!

The last day we went back down town to check out 3 missions. They were pretty cool and we took tons of pictures and it was really hot so we didn’t go to any more of them. Just these 3 main ones. After the missions we stopped at a Gluten Free Restaurant that I heard about on Facebook. It was good just a little pricey.

We took our time driving back. I think it was about 6.5 hours with a couple of the stops we made, but overall it was a super fun vacation.

Here is a list of places we went/things we did:
1. Sea world

2. Natural Bridge Caverns

3. The Alamo

4. The Riverwalk

5. Fredericksburg

6.. San Antonio Missions

Trying to Figure out This Summer

We are trying to figure out what we should do this summer.  We usually make an annual trip up to Seattle to see my family.  Now we have or maybe I should say I have thought about it, but there is so much going on I’m not sure we can get away for at least one week and head up that way.  Also thought about checking out some Las Vegas hotels since my cousin still lives in Vegas. Hmmm, another idea was to head down south to Fredericksburg, Texas to a bed and breakfast. (I found a Gluten-free one)

I really wish we could go one a REAL vacation, but we are trying to save up as much money as possible since we are hopefully adopting a child this year.  Maybe we should just take a few short weekend trips, instead of expensive long range flights..  Hmmm  we will have to continue the debate on this one.

The Last Day

Yesterday we went to the last day of the Texas State Fair.  It was such a nice day out too.  Upper 70′s maybe 80-81 but it was really nice.  Last year we didn’t go to the fair since I have Celiac disease it make it rather difficult to eat any of the fair foods.  I mean isn’t that the reason you really go to the state fair, to eat and eat fried fatty foods?  I know it used to be my reason.  Corn Dogs, funnel cakes, and belgium waffles, yummy.

So yesterday we really wanted to go.  My wife is a teacher and they get a free ticket so we decided since it was the last day lets just go out there for a few hours.  Glad we did, as I said before it was a really nice day and by the time we left around 4ish, the crowds were still not that bad for being a Sunday.

Overall we had a really fun time and did a couple things we have not done at the fair in years past.  Here are a couple of pictures that I took.

Game Time

Sooner Mazzie Dog is suited up watching the game..

Go SOONERS…!!!!

Last score was 21-17 with a few minutes left in the 1st half…

The Big Weekend is Here…

The 2008 Red River Rivalry.  (I still like Red River Shootout better)

Game takes place tomorrow in Dallas @ the Cotton Bowl around 11am cst.

Of course most will know that I will be cheering for Oklahoma and they better win and keep their #1 ranking in the country.  However, I do believe they will win tomorrow and go on to the National Championship this year…

Go Sooners..

What are People Thinking

I have been watching 4 video streams of Houston News channels today and they are covering the coast area and talking with people and they have been reporting flooding and storm surge already and the eye of the hurricane still isn’t close to landfall.  I think we are still 12 hours away from that.  I think a lot of homes will be destroyed.  So hence the title of my post, I can’t believe what some people think.  Some people that they have interviewed on TV had decided to just stay and ride out the storm.  I guess they don’t care that forecasters keep warning people that if they don’t leave it could be ‘Certain Death’  I don’t know about you but after watching this storm and all the reports about it, I would leave..  This storm is massive.  In fact the track it’s taken we are going to see above rainfall averages for our area and sustained winds to 50mph for several hours.  In fact they just issued a flash flood watch for the Dallas, Fort Worth area.

I know this storm would be FUN to watch, but not at the chance of losing your life over it.   I hope they really  decide to leave.  They still have a couple hours to get out.
