4 Police Officers Slain…  Lakewood, Washington

After getting a message from my friend who lives in Tacoma, WA. and then getting a breaking news text from CNN, I really couldn’t believe what I was reading.  4 Slain Officers in Lakewood, WA.  That just sucks to be honest.  According to some news reports these 4 officers were sitting around the coffee shop awaiting the start of their shifts and someone opened fire on them.  I hope they find the one responsible who blatantly thought about these killings prior to doing them.  I will update this more as information is released..

taken from king5.com:

“All four of our slain officers had been with this department since it started five years ago.  Sergeant Mark Renninger and Officers Ronald Owens, Tina Griswold, and Greg Richards were police veterans when they started and all have been outstanding professionals,” said Lakewood Police Chief Bret Farrar in a press release. “This is a very difficult time for our families and our officers.  The families will have many challenges ahead of them and we ask that their privacy be respected. Please keep our families and Lakewood Police in your prayers.”

Those interested in supporting the families of the slain officers are welcome to make a donation through the Lakewood Police Independent Guild (LPIG) Benevolent Fund at PO Box 99579, Lakewood, WA 98499.

Proud of my Mom

Over the last year, maybe longer my mom has started her own home business.  She has decided to or should I say she did decide to start making earrings and selling them at local bizarres and craft shows.  She has also made cell phone holders and a few necklaces for me.  I would have to say that she is doing pretty good.  The winter time or should I say between Christmas and April are the off months since most craft shows are outside and in the Seattle area this isn’t a good time for outdoor activities.

A guy I know and I are working on a new website for her so she can start selling her goods online.  I hope that will grow her business base and make more money since they are in retirement.  If you have some time check out her website – webersoriginals.com ** Just keep in mind the site is being built at the moment. **

Of course I will blast the news once it’s done.

So Ike came close to us today.  We pretty much saw some rain and some good gusts of wind but that was pretty much it.  However down South by the coast, most not so lucky.

They canceled our soccer game today but not until we drove up there, walked to the field and got rained on.  They did cancel some games last night, so the question really is..  Why didn’t you just cancel all the games this weekend instead of some and make people drive up there this morning and waste time and gas.  Oh well..  Just had a nice day of no soccer and I got to work on the office some more and watch tons of hurricane news coverage.  Now just watching the OU Sooners play my home town University of Washington…

Go Sooners..!!

How is your Saturday going?  or how was your Saturday?

Holidays are coming fast

The holidays seem to be approaching pretty fast these days and it’s time to figure out what to do.  The last two years of holidays, Leslie and I have not been able to make it back to Seattle to spend it with my family.  So as the planning process is taking place, I think this year we are actually going to make it.

I hope we can fly non-stop, even if it costs more.  The non-stop version cuts a few hours of the total travel time.  Not to mention that when we fly back to Texas we lose 2 hours just in the time change alone.

Speaking of trips.  One of these days I would love to go see the East Coast.  Never been.  Maybe check out the Outer Banks close to the ocean and just hang out and relax..  Although the opposite way (west), Hawaii sounds awesome just like our honeymoon..!!!

I know it’s early but any of you out there making holiday travel plans? or just staying around home?

Watch out While Hiking

Back in my home state (Washington) last weekend a pretty tragic accident happened.  One boy (14) and one adult were out bear hunting.  And before I go on, I will just state for the record that there is no law against a 14 year old that hunts and it is legal in this area for bear hunting.

Now Pamela Almli (54) was hiking with a friend around 10:30am last Saturday.  Pamela stopped on the trail (which according to the reports was a very popular hiking area) and bent over to put something into her backpack.  Then this accident took place.  The 14 year old boy mistakenly thought it was a bear and fired a fatal shot.

I can’t imagine what both families are feeling or thinking right now.
Just a horrible accident.

Possible Gang Ties

Checking in to see if there was any new info about the shooting up in Kent, Washington that was by the Kent Cornucopia Days Festival.

Now the Kent Police are looking into possible gang ties for the shooting.  They had another incident where they found another young man shot in the neck in Renton which they think he was shot while trying to retaliate for the earlier shooting..  Just crazy..  Renton is my old home town..!!!

Here is part of the article:

“There were about 20 people, plus 10 to 15 customers in there when the shooting happened, so it was a pretty busy place at that moment,” Kent police spokesman Paul Peterson said.

About two hours later, at 9:40 p.m., an 18-year-old man stumbled into a convenience store parking lot near the Renton Transit Center and collapsed from a gunshot wound to the neck, Renton police said.

Summer Travel Time

Almost every summer Leslie and I head back up to Seattle (My home town) to visit family and friends. And almost every time we travel, regardless where something within the family happens. So this summer we are starting to make our plans for some traveling.

Now this summer and probably every summer from now on prices will being going up and up and up. So right now the decision is being made based on costs versus happy travel time. Based on the prices creeping upward and family health and emergencies, we might look into travel insurance for our trip this year.

That way if something does happen or something comes up, it’s not a total loss if you know what I mean…

I just got back home and was reading some comments and went to check some things out and now according to news sources (King5) that Zane Dittman who was recently blown to pieces now may be connected to a homicide at a local construction site.

They are saying that he possibly worked at the construction site where they found a body back on Monday.

Here is a blurb from King5:
On Tuesday, Dittman, 25, was killed after the top floor of the Puyallup, Wash. home where he was living exploded, showering debris up to 100 yards away. Pierce County investigators say residents called 911 after they found Dittman making bombs.

The day before, a construction worker at an office building found a man’s bloody body on the site at 7th and Madison in Seattle. Investigators ruled it a homicide. The King County Medical Examiner identifies the victim as 25-year-old Noel Richard Lopez. His injuries included subdural hemorrhaging, multiple rib fractures and blunt force injuries to the head and torso.

According to construction workers at Monday’s murder scene in Seattle, Dittman used to work at the site, but they were told by their bosses not to speak with KING 5 News.

So we will have to wait and see. Maybe he killed him and then went home to make more bombs and one went off?? Who knows, and we might never know.

I will try and keep an eye on this and post an update..
